Radio Broadcasters

CSI issues licenses to radio broadcasters for the right to reproduce musical works onto their servers for the purpose of automating their stations’ song schedule.

Commercial Radio: The licensing of commercial radio stations is effected under CSI’s Commercial Radio Tariff.

Under this tariff, commercial radio stations are classified as either a “low-use stations” or “high-use stations”. A station is considered a ‘low use station’ if it broadcasts works in the repertoire of SOCAN for less than 20% of its total broadcast time (excluding production music). This classification determines the rates payable to CSI for the use of music in its repertoire.

In addition, commercial radio stations must submit monthly radio logs, reporting forms and royalty payments to CSI. For company registration, reporting forms and/or technical requirement documents, please contact csi@cmrrasodrac.ca.

A copy of the Commercial Radio Tariff is available here: http://www.cb-cda.gc.ca/tariffs-tarifs/certified-homologues/2010/20100710.pdf
